Mosaic Reflections was just a thought until I took a workshop in Philly. In May 2008, I was inspired to go into business after doing a workshop with Isaiah Zagar. Zagar who is a renowned Philadelphia mosaic mural artist, held outdoor weekend workshops in South Philadelphia. The two day workshop offered participants the opportunity to work on a mosaic mural from conception to completion. One learned the art of breaking tile, cutting mirror, gluing, etc. Art classes and even mosaic classes were not new to me, but nothing had prepared me for a weekend with Isaiah. His teaching was organic. It wasn't about the "right" way to do art. "Reach your hand into the bucket of smashed tile pieces...don't look...there is no correct piece." His insight gave me courage. After those classes I took four of my mosaic pieces over to a local Art gallery. They accepted all four pieces. My work continues to be shown in galleries across the east coast, and to clients throughout the country.
Mosaics captivated me with the tactile experience of working in three dimensions, and the endless possibilities of the materials you can use. I incorporate recycled materials such as mirror, window glass, bottle caps, and traffic light glass. Within the process, I create intricate hand-made tiles from both clay and glass. Each glass piece is either painted and cut to size or fused in my kiln. Believing in the power of positive words, I include quotes in many of my pieces. My hope is that the inspirational messages found in my designs will be enjoyed by those who read them. I enjoy designing custom work for clients & bringing their ideas to life. I create from my heart and would love to create something for you!
